CNEC Calls on Congress and White House to Fully Fund the Federal-State Partnership for State of Good Repair Program in FY2018
(Washington, D.C.) - On January 17th, members of the Coalition for the Northeast Corridor sent letters to House and Senate leaders, as well as the White House, urging policymakers to ensure that the corridor’s rail infrastructure receives critical investment in FY 2018 by fully funding the Federal-State Partnership for State of Good Repair”- a federally authorized grant program for rail/NEC.
Read the respective letters here: White House, House, Senate.
We thank House appropriators for appropriating $500 million the House FY 2018 THUD bill for the Federal-State Partnership for State of Good Repair grant program, authorized in the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act. The appropriated $500 million could be leveraged (via State matching requirements) into another $500 million – bringing the total investment up to $1 billion. However, the Senate only included $26 million.
While the bill for all the NEC state-of-good repair needs is daunting— funding the program will help avoid future failures and secure a sustainable infrastructure for the future. This not only supports the corridor, but the entire nation.
We thank Congress and the White House for their leadership.
