(Washington, D.C.) – On December 22nd, the United States Department of Transportation announced the release of a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for projects along the Northeast Corridor (NEC) through the Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Grant Program (Partnership Program). This action will make nearly $9 billion in funding available for improvements and expansions to the existing rail line. Over the next five years, this amount will grow to $36 billion thanks to efforts by the Coalition for the Northeast Corridor (CNEC) to advocate for increases to this critical grant program under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
"The Coalition applauds this notice of federal investment to address the backlog of projects along the Northeast Corridor", said Mike Friedberg, CNEC Executive Director. "Today's announcement will help to ensure the continued success of America's busiest passenger rail corridor into the future. Our members stand ready to support stakeholders and project sponsors throughout the implementation process."
The NEC Partnership Program NOFO will be published in the Federal Register on Tuesday, December 27. You can view the NOFO as submitted to the Federal Register here. Applications are due no later than 90 days after the publication date in the Federal Register, and FRA will provide technical assistance to potential applicants prior to the deadline. More information about the Partnership Program can be found here.
CNEC is the business community's voice for strengthening rail infrastructure in order to reduce congestion, create jobs and grow the economy. We represent diverse stakeholders who rely on the Corridor to conduct commerce, access customers, and transport employees.
