November 23, 2022 CONTACT Mike Friedberg Mike.Friedberg@hklaw.com 202-469-5131 (Washington, D.C.) – On November 16, the Federal Rail Administration (FRA) published its Northeast Corridor Project Inventory List. The list outlines how FRA intends to distribute the funds throughout the Northeast Corridor as authorized by the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) though the Federal-State Partnership for Intercity Passenger Rail Program (Partnership Program). Specifically, the list guides $24 billion across a total of 68 projects divided into 15 Major Backlog Projects and 53 Capital Renewal, Stations, and Improvement Projects. The list serves as a priority project pipeline to assist Amtrak, States and other stakeholders in the streamlined planning and development of projects that will improve intercity and commuter rail transportation along the corridor. Only those projects mentioned within the list are eligible for Partnership Program funding. Projects can expect the FRA to issue the corresponding Notice of Funding Opportunity before the end of the calendar year. "FRA's publication of the NEC Project Inventory is a welcome step towards ensuring that critical projects along the corridor receive federal funding", said Mike Friedberg, CNEC Executive Director. "After decades of underinvestment, coordination amongst stakeholders is key to deliver on promises to build and modernize our rail infrastructure. Our members are excited to see this round of projects move forward towards implementation." CNEC is the business community's voice for strengthening rail infrastructure in order to reduce congestion, create jobs and grow the economy. We represent diverse stakeholders who rely on the Corridor to conduct commerce, access customers, and transport employees.
